520 a$aIn this paper, we report on the findings from a study in which we are examining the use of and attitudes towards Saint Lucian kwéyól, Dominican Kwéyól, and Haitian Kwéyól among three French-Lexifier Creole speech communities on St. Croix, U.S.V.I. This paper will focus on four themes in recent research on Kwéyól in St. Lucia: language choice, language loss and shift, bilingualism, and language attitudes. This study will provide answers to question such as: How central is Kwéyól to the identities of St. Lucians, Dominicans and Haitians in St. Croix? What are the political and ideological implications of the use of Kwéyól in St. Croix? Conversely, what are the implications of the rejection of Kwéyól by growing numbers of young St. Lucians and Dominicans?
